I really wish we could own a house here one day. The recent news sounds really inviting. The government is now offering a ‘rent to own’ scheme. You can rent for 2 years and then decide whether to purchase the house or just leave. It is better than renting and end up with nothing at all. With almost 5 years of renting here, our money didn’t go anywhere. At least with this scheme, we start with higher rate [quite reasonable], then if lucky to keep up with the rents and decide to buy the house, the monthly repayments can then be lowered to almost 30-40%. A three bed new house for a cheap price at this point is a blessing. I supposed they are doing that too because of the number of empty houses available nationwide. There are a lot of new developments that are left with no other option but to sell them at a very low price. These three bed houses would have been 2 or 3x higher, pre recession.
I just talked to Filipino who are in the process of their application. He said, there are a number of Filipino families who have been granted a space.
